That is why it is called RMAN (Recovery Manager)no BMAN. The only reason to do backup at all is so you can recover.

What I miss in all the answers is focus on recovery. Nice to train on backup-scripts, but if your scripts run well you don't need that. I never accept a consultancy-assignment 'to create a backup plan', or to 'implement backup scripts' or whatever backup-focused objective one can think of.

It is RECOVERY that counts! How much time is there allowed to restore/recover a database? That is the ultimate objective. When that constraint is known and agreed upon, one can start thinking of backup scenarios needed to support the recovery task, meeting the constraint.

Training on backup scripts is nice, training various recovery scenarios is MANDATORY. If disaster strikes your system, you need to be familiar with the recovery, or you will be lost.
