If you arent using tape, you dont need to relink oracle with libobk, just configure channels to disk.

Dont see why it takes 5 days, rman can be pretty easy.

  1. Make sure backups disks are available (pre install job)
  2. Create a catalog db on another server (2 hours)
  3. Configure RMAN (if you know what youa re doing 30 mins)
  4. Backup database and test different restores - rest of the day

In my opinion if you need to go over the rman architecture then you shouldnt be using it. Learn how it works and then try to implement it yourself
