We are on Apps 11i/DB 9.2.0.5 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

Recently i upgraded the database from 8.1.7.4 to 9.2.0.5 and i started seeing the following error message in the alert.log:-

Errors in file
f:\oracle\proddb\9.2.0\admin\prod_oradb\udump\prod_ora_2840.trc: ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 917536 bytes (joxcx callheap,ioc_allocate ufree)

This usually happens when the memory usage exceeds 2.5GB. The machine is a 4 CPU, 4GB(with the /3GB switch turned on).

Oracle support suggests that i use orastack to modify the default stack size of a thread/session.

Currently it is set as follows:-

Current Reserved Memory per Thread = 1048576 Current Committed Memory per Thread = 4096

I'm planning to reduce it to 500K.

Has anyone tried changing the default stack size on 9i and what are your experiences? Metalink note: 46001.1 has the details for orastack.

Thanks,
Sriram
