[Q] does ORACLE Standard Edition support Standby database function???

I know on ORACLE 8i and 9i Standard Edition does NOT support "data guard redo apply and SQL apply".

Does ORACLE Standard Edition on 8i support "standby database"?

Does both servers need be same version (like both servers must SE or EE)?
