I think Mladen has an excellent point. Years ago I worked for a software vendor and helped customers diagnose problems. I couldn't always communicate clearly and openly. I had to be careful not to appear to disparage the company's products. I would sometimes hint that a given utility shouldn't be used, but that was about it. I couldn't give advice that if mishandled might cause the customer to lose data. The vendor didn't want to get sued for recommending actions that went badly and caused damages. For certain types of questions I find this forum very helpful and refreshing.

Believe it or not, if I were the owner of both oracle and this list, I would not only allow the kind of nagging that goes on here, but also encourage it. Dissatisfied customers are an opportunity for competition, and I would certainly want to know about in time to address any dissatisfaction.
As a life-long liberal, I believe that the openness is the best policy. The first time that a customer feels that he's been had is the last time that I can
count on him as a customer.
