PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET Exceeded by a Single Session?

Listers,

Under what circumstances can a *single* session grab more than the P_A_T?

9.2.0.5 EE on Windows 2000 Server. We have a query where V$SESSTAT as well as V$PROCESS show the max pga mem approaching 2 gig. P_A_T is set to 800MB. My understanding is that no session gets more than 5% of P_A_T (parallel up to 30%?). I think I've heard of where PL/SQL table could cause this, and a co-worker says he has read this also. But this is just a query.
