Actually, the only thing I really liked about Don's book was that he actually performed testing and documented how he did the testing. So you can review his testing method and decide if you want to improve it for your purposes. I see a lot of "thin is faster" or "thick is faster", but no data to support the conclusion or a description of how the testing was conducted. Don's data is for Oracle9i and at least 3 years old now, so I certainly wouldn't trust the actual conclusions.

But anyway we are drifting away from your earlier point of how the connections are managed. In my case (smallish Oracle site, only 16 production databases, just use tnsnames.ora), I have only a single Weblogic administrator to deal with and he sits across the aisle from me. If we relocate a database, then he just has to create a new connection pool and switch the applications.

Good luck on deciding whether to be thick or thin.
