Carel-Jan liked your idea.

   We also have a lot of DBs named PROD, TEST, ORCL etc. What we do is create a table called DB and put in what we consider to be the "real" name and other pertinent info.

So DB name in PROD could be CHICAGO, SFRAN, JACK, DALLAS, or PLANT54 etc.
