Ok. for some reason even though you may not have installed RAC or ASM you may still get some OCSSD.bin process running in the background.  

Now if you try to install the 10.0.1.3 patchset, you get an error because you still have processes running in the background.  

If you try to kill them, they come back from the dead to haunt you  

You need to comment off the following line in /etc/inittab and reboot the server and you wont have the ocssd running. The line is.
h1:35:respawn:/etc/init.d/init.cssd run >/dev/null 2>&1  

It is really strange to since this is only on ONE of my Linux installs, seems like my Sun install is ok.  

Will let you know if I run into any other fun stuff on upgrading my Linux box or Sun box.
