Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, have gone for the minimize records per block stuff as I know how many records I want in a block.

Will post results in a few days time to see how performance is holding up

If you have Oracle 9.2.0.5, you should go with locally managed tablespaces with automatic segment space management and report the results to this list. Pay no attention to oracle alerts warning about the possible segment corruption.
