IF you are on a UNIX version then when you set your Oracle environment do you set the TWO_TASK variable? If so unset TWO_TASK prior to attempting to create a sysdba session via sqlplus /nolog. Having TWO_TASK set when you attempt to connect / as sysdba using OS group security will result in a ORA-01031 error.

We are movign all our accounts to su only authentication on the os level. one of the problems i'm seeing it that if i su into oracle and do a conenct / as sysdba
i get a 1031 insufficient privileges.
the remote_login_passwordfile is set to exclusive. i can connect thru sysdba if am logged in directly . any ideas any one have this issue.
