Dick,

with the aid of the Puschitz site, even I can perform the Oracle 9.2 (plus patchsets) install on RHEL 3.0 ES without issue - and without a X client console.

Now, before you think "wow, that's a really neat trick" - I actually talked the sysadmin thru the GUI-required sections. So an X session was still required.

the trick was to not move to a newer kernel. stick with the base kernel and don't update it.
