you might try to add something like this: SQL> set editfile "/tmp/buffer.sql"

this also solves the "problem" of all those afiedt.buf files in various places...

This was tested in both sqlplus and sqlplusw, Release 10.1.0.2.0 (Oracle
Client installed on Windows XP Professional).

Can you post more details about the client that you are using? Any
details about the test?
