   In addition to the suggestions from Juan and Tanel, I would suggest that you collect statistics at the server level for CPU, I/O, and Memory. You don't mention the type of server you have, but many Unix systems have the iostat utility that does a pretty fair job. Write a script to aggregate these values. Then graph them over hours and days. This will give you a picture of when the server is heavily loaded and when it has available capacity. To give credit where it is due, Don Burleson outlines these ideas in his book Oracle9i High-Performance Tuning with STATSPACK. I don't think his methods will solve every tuning problem, but it might help in your situation. His book includes some scripts for aggregating statistics.

   DW servers often have long periods of relatively little usage. Increasing capacity is often a matter of rescheduling loads and reports, or figuring out how to make some processes play better together. Also look for SQL or programs that can be tuned. And if that doesn't work, you have the facts to convince management that they need to purchase more hardware. And if you can warn them ahead of time, they might not be so grumpy. Yeah, sure.

One of my application said that the load on the database will double in = the month of September. They will be rolling out the app. to lot more = people.
What are the precautions I need to take besides space? How do I know if the SGA is enough? It is a datawarehouse. Any suggestions are appreciated.
