I suggested this since I was wondering if he makes the copy of the = control file before starting the backup process. Don't know if this is the case, then probably the timestamp info in the = control file will be much older than ones in the data files and the = archived logs generated during the backup process, which may require an = earlier archive log.

I never recreate the controlfile when a backup version is available. = Maybe
it's a bias from starting out before recreation was an option.

Is it possible that a tablespace was already in backup mode before the backup process started?
