I was speaking of the OCM program, not OCP. OCP has been discussed to death here. And yes, I have OCP for market/employment reasons - to keep myself even with everyone else.

You're right. Requiring certification is just another CYA metod for damagement. I like the recent column 'Hiding behind certification' (http://cio.co.nz/cio.nsf/0/7259DF33F26CCE60CC256EB600630958?OpenDocument) of Michael Schrage.
Sometimes certification helps you to get a foot in the door of a company. However, I've seen too many certified ignorants. I'd rather spend my time experimenting and reading and following this list, than getting some certificate. There will be companies that won't let me touch their databases. So be it. It's their choice, not my problem.
Oops, I see your OCP signature. Don't take my words personally. Added value of certification depends on local marketing effects. When damagement requires certification everywhere, you need it. I'm in the lucky situation of not needing an OCP certificate to survive as a contractor.
