Maybe this can help to get a manager partenering in the project:

As said in many presentations: we can do it good, fast and cheap. Pick out the two you want, the other objective can't be met. This is true in real life. Why would your management assume that designing applications/DWH's/databases/datamodels isn't part of the real life? Your project can be done cheap and fast. But it won't be good then and has has to be done again. and again. and again. till it's good. but not cheap anymore. and far from fast.
