I would put the salary range for Dallas right now between 65 and 80. Consulting rates are where the real mess there exists as the placements pimps and firms have picked the market dry such that rates are being offered as low as $30-35 an hour. I had to laugh at the sitation, but it is'nt funny. I attribute that to the number of IT folks that are out of work there and when that many are desperate, it is easy to take advantage.  Placement firms and the pimps are still billing out at around $75-100 an hour and pocketing all they can. Based on your networking and abilities and level of desperation, the range is between 30 and 60, with 45-55 being the average.

Keep in mind Dallas used to be very strong in terms of openings and compensations, with salaries between 75-110 being the norm and rates slightly below 100 an hour.

This is in terms of a 5-8 year general DBA type... ymmv, but this is what I saw...
