Data Direct provides a cheat-sheet on how to use Oracle heterogenous services and access the ODBC driver. See Oracle metalink documents: 115098.1 and 124943.1 titled Problems with locating Hetergenous Services and Quick Start Guide: UNIX - Generic Connectivity using ODBC, respectively.
