Kathy, the only way that you can see what is holding the memory is to flush shared pool and then do system dump. If you were waiting on a latch, then Steve's solution would actually make sense and you would be able to find out who's holding what. I suspect that your problems come from CURSOR_SPACE_FOR_TIME. In 8i, there is a parameter called session_cached_cursors which will determine the size of per session cursor cache. Space for time thing is evil and I distinctly remember that parameter being associated with several 8i bugs. Unfortunately, I no longer have an access to 8i database so I cannot give you details. Steve Adams most probably can.
