Dan,

I'm not sure of the source, but it's false, at least on Solaris:

SQL*Plus: Release 10.1.0.2.0 - Production on Wed May 19 16:38:27 2004

Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.2.0 - 64bit = Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options

SQL> alter session set optimizer_mode=3Drule;

Session altered.

SQL>
-Mark

PS It may be true that it's not supported, or deprecated, but you can = certainly
set it.

I recall reading (doc or this list) that you could not set the = optimizer_mode to RULE in 10g. Does anyone remember the source of=20 this statement?
