You can use 1 listener.ora file. Is your 8i installation 32-bit or = 64-bit.
If 64-bit, you can have 1 listener for both versions. I'd make it = version
9. If 32-bit, you'll need 2 entries in your listener.ora file. One for = 8i
and one for 9i.

You only need one version of the tnsnames.ora file. That is not version specific.

Location? I would let it default to standard, which on Sun is /var/opt/oracle.=20

Subject: 8i & 9i on same SunOS 2.8 box - best practices on ...

where to put 8i/9i listeners or can I use one? if yes, which version? = where
to put 8i/9i tnsnames.ora or can I use one? if yes which version, 8i?

change dbora for auto startup/shutdown for 8i/9i?

oracle 8.1.7.4 and 9.2.0.4 installed on separate OHs.

hw: v880 Suns 8gb RAM, 4 CPU's=20

What works best for you if you have 8i and 9i on same box?

Thanks,
