Lisa:

It is based on the disk/disk groups. You just need to give /dev/(r)dsk paths to ASM
and ASM will take care the rest. It is like managing a JBOD for oracle datafiles. It
can also do 2way or 3way mirroring.

I have experimented ASM some time back and it works as advertised. But I don't
have ANY production customers using ASM. So I would excercise caution!
