Yes, if your job includes the responsibility to do both "finding" and "fixing," then I would recommend the order PD101 first, then OP101 second.

So, would it be fair to say that "find 'em then fix 'em" may be a better order than "fix 'em then find 'em"? PD101 then OP101?

Michael,

Some thoughts "from the vendor," if you don't mind. Here are the official course objectives from www.hotsos.com/education:

PD101 -- To introduce students to a scientific method for diagnosing Oracle system performance problems rapidly and accurately, no matter what the root cause.

OP101 -- To provide direct hands-on experience that will improve a student's ability to improve the data access performance of individual SQL statements.

In other words: OP101 teaches you how to fix the SQL statements that someone who took PD101 has handed you. :) Many of our students, of course, act in both roles.

Is there a particular recommended order for taking PD101 vs. OP101? Do you
recommend both? Now that the quest for my OCP is over, I feel very excited
about actually learning about Oracle in ways that will help me be a better
DBA! Thanks,
