Why does the private nic not have an IP? It should . Also ensure thet once the private nic's have IP's
that the binding order is such that the public IP's are loaded first.


Not necessarily. For instance, Veritas Clustering requires a private network between
the nodes for the proprietary protocal GAB. If you put an IP on this network, bad
things will happen.

As the poster mentions, this is a Veritas Cluster system, so you can't put an IP
on the network.

It may be a good idea to install anothe NIC in each node.
