I've seen this happen on windows with 817 - Oracle seemed to decide it need=
ed to extend the datafile for temp, rather than reusing space that was avai=
lable within it. My memory is that this was a bug and that it was fixed in =
8174, but my memory unfortunately isn't what it once was.=20
