Um, yeah. 8i is far from new, and so is 9i for that matter.

Are you having troubles?

Say, it wouldn't be that the installer is hanging and you eventually have to kill it, would it?

That happens on 8i with an Intel P4 due to a but in Symantecs JIT compiler.

It doesn't happen with 9i.
