I'm using a handful of them under 8.1.7, for a 3rd-party app which we aren't able to modify. I've never noticed any CBO-related problems (none related to the use of stored outlines, anyway ;-)... it works rather well, actually.

Subject: Stored outlines

Is anybody using stored outlines in production? There has been some talk about outlines being a great tool to optimize SQL statements without having access to the source, which to me seems to be the best reason to use them. Others have said that using stored outlines interferes with the CBO and that you'd be just as well off with the RBO.

Any thoughts?
