Strike 1. Couldn't un-cpio the archive from any of three OSs (Gentoo i686, RH7.2 Alpha, Win2K) due to "memory exhausted". Worked on installing Solaris9 for a 10g build there instead.

Seems to me other folks here had similar problems. Will research and try again tonite.
