Yes. With the production database, you don't have much choice: RH AS or SLES (Red Hat or SuSE). If you chose anything else, you don't have support. Those two distributions are supported, stable, solid and boring as heck. Mandrake isn't boring, but I'd advise against putting production database on it. Generally speaking, I would never do in production many things that I gladly do on my own machine.
