Shared Server vs. Connection Pooling

My shop is using connection pooling. It seems like the trend is towards middle tier connection pooling and away from Shared Server. What do you think? Anyone know any cases where Shared Server is a superior option to middle tier connection pooling(other than the reduction in cost)?
