I've posted a Word doc that may help with this. It's a cheat sheet I use when setting up Windoze DB's and run into authentication problems.

Thanks. The setting is NTS for both 8i and 9i sqlnet on same machine but I can
connect with 8i as sys without password but with 9i it requires password....
Now I become used to it.
