Actually, taking backup should be a part of every major intervention on the database. Changing the database mode from noarchivelog to archivelog most certainly qualifies. You can never be too rich or have too many backups. My experience tells me that the backup you will need the most will always be the one you don't have. Murphy must have been a DBA.
