Hello list I am using Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 ,

Consider the merge command :

merge into <table1>
using........
on (column matching condition)
then
update set .........
when not matched then

insert values .......................;

Is there a restriction that the column specified in 'column matching condition' cannot be placed in the 'update set' clause ?

The docs don't mention this, but I tried this out and I seem to be experiencing this behaviour.

........Thanks in advance

Q. Which hardware platform does Oracle perform the best on? A. A 35 mm slide projector.
