2 interesting comments on RAC from a well known financial institution in the UK.

  1. They didn't do TAF because it requires rewrites of the apps (and this was a cost saving exercise) and in any case if one node fails the affected end-users look at their neighbours who are still working (on another node) conclude the PC or network has crashed and restart the app rather than call support :(
  2. Have never patched the database due to issues with patches and RAC.

Actually the 'cost saving' part of the exercise was interesting as well, since it appears that due to their high Oracle usage and high profile RAC was effectively free, they moved from a RISC platform to RAC on Linux with higher throughput and lower hardware cost.

Very interesting war story.
