This is exactly where the problem is: Things do not work the same way in SuSE, RH and Debian and probably not in Gentoo, either. The "echo" stuff works on any distribution, which is probably why oracle keeps recommending it. I looked at Gento and it looks good.It is, however, mostly manual installation. One should first configure ethernet adapter using "dhcpd eth0", fix nameservers using "nano" (why not "vi"?) ,then fix disks using "fdisk", "mkfs" and "mount", activate swap, untar the tarball and then, finally, use emerge. I must say that it is more work then I like. I'm on RH-9, so I'm golden until 4/30/2004. I'll wait and see what will SuSE, Ximian & Novell do untill then. Also, Fedora might be a thing to try. After all, it is on the bleeding edge. Still, there isn't any software for the darned thing. No XMMS, no pan, no gaim or any other productivity tools. Even Limewire doesn't work.
Finally, RH might change its mind because I believe that the recent move has made plenty of room for Novell, and that might lead to the ultimate demise of RH. They might try winning the hearts of CIOs but the path to cIOs leads through the hearts of us, home users. And boy, are we pissed off now or what?

I used this on the RH installs I've
