How about just use <ESC> for filename completion? I'm using 11/16/88 version
ksh.
$ set -o emacs
$ what /bin/ksh
/bin/ksh:
Version M-11/16/88i SunOS 5.8 Generic 110662-04 May 2001$ touch yongtest
The last line was typed by pressing "ls yongt<ESC><ESC>".
