It is a *lot* different.

What RAC is supposed to do for an application ( i.e. run on a node, you don't know/don't care which one ), GC does for apps in general.

It's still vapor ware in many respects. Look up Sun N1, they claim to be making use of it internally. The pieces for it are only partly in place though.
