Hi!

My toughest experiences:

5) Once spilled orange juice on my keyboard. Washed it with care, then threw it away.
4) My colleague accidentially hit enter instead of backspace when wanted to erase "*" from rm -rf * . Restored from backup. 3) Blindly assumed that MySQL had ACID properties when was asked to build a small internet app about 5 years ago. Redesigned. (this one is very stupid ;)
2) Once spilled beer on my keyboard. Poured beer back to my glass. Threw away the keyboard.
1) Had to fix a 8.1.6 database, which hadn't worked well, after what the all-knowing CIO hired some ***hole to convert the same app into parallel server. A lot of money was spent, but the app performed even worse. I was called only to say that remove your OPS, remove one redolog member from all redo groups (which were on the same disk), analyze tables and set two parameters.

Good luck with your book.
Tanel.
