Well, I only failed once, and at that particular OpenWorld, which I think was in 1997, they were offering a show special price of only $35/exam. What's a cert book cost? More than $35 I should think.

Since then it's been only one upgrade exam every year or two, at a cost of around $135 (I think), so I just take the risk. But remember, even though I don't read cert books, I *do* read manuals, and I *do* spend a lot of time researching and experimenting the new features in each release. I can't say enough for setting up a small lab environment and just having at it.
