Hi

The O'Reilly book "Oracle scripts" has a shell script products.sh that does this, although it uses the file unix.rgs instead although for 9iR1 which i can check now this file only contains the line

rdbms 9.0.0.0.0 Beta

so i guess the install log in $ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory/logs/installActi ons.log might be the best source to use. on 9iR1 it contains a section listing the current inventory, this should include patches but how reliably updated it is I am not sure!:

<snip>
Current Inventory:

        Independent Products:
                Java Runtime Environment 1.1.8.12.0
                Oracle Universal Installer 2.0.1.4.0
        Oracle Home: /export/home/u01/app/oracle/product/9.0.1
                LDAP Required Support Files 9.0.1.0.0
                Database SQL Scripts 9.0.1.0.0
                Precompiler Required Support Files 9.0.1.0.0
                RDBMS Required Support Files 9.0.1.0.0
                ...

</snip>

There should also be a file $ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory/Contents/PatchesLi st0.ser that looks like it might contain patch info?, it is binary so you could investigate this file also with the strings command.

hth

kind regards

Pete
