RE: 9i OCP Details

The story I heard from one of the senior Oracle Education Instructors was that some jerks completed the OCP and then bragged about how they had done it without ever logging into Oracle. So Oracle added the requirement to complete a course. I asked the instructor, "so you guys are going to ensure nobody gets out of your class without logging in?". My reply was a sly grin.

You'll want to verify this on otn.oracle.com, but it SEEMS (I stress seems because this is the way I understand it.) that as of sometime last year (September maybe), if one starts the 9i track with no prior exams there is an in-class training requirement which must be met. However, if you already had your 8i, you could simply take the 9i upgrade with no classroom obligation.
It's been a while since I read the note on this, but my recollection is that there was no restriction defined on doing it that way, meaning I think you could possibly still do the 8i track, then 9i upgrade and avoid the expensive classroom requirement.

If it is not this way, someone please correct me as I've already steered one person wrong by encouraging him to complete the 8i track (he has taken the 8i Admin exam already).

So, if I understand your question correctly, you are asking whether you
should:
1. Take the 8i exams, then the 9i upgrade exam. 2. Take the 9i exams.
This will depend to some extent on your background, whether you still work
with 8i. Whether you can get your manager to spring for a class or two.

Myself, I started this path over a year ago (slow learner). At that time
since the 9i study materials weren't readily available, and I still work
with 8i a lot, I chose to go the 8i route.

If I were to start today, I think I would just go the 9i route. I expect
soon Oracle will announce that in 6 months the 8i path will be closed. This
has already happened with Oracle 8.

Hi Group,

I wanted to do my 9i OCP. I have not taken any of the 8i OCP exams. To do 9i Exams directly I need to attend module 3 or 4 or New features

from any of the Oracle Edu Partners.
Shall I take 9i New features and go ahead with the 9i exams.

Suggestion are appreciated.

Thanks
Senthil.
