Ian,
You can try resyncing the catalog and if that still doesn't work try to
uncatalog that log:
rman> change archivelog '/full_path/log_name_8192.arc' uncatalog;'

to hold off on their 2,000,000 rows per hour data which they can do for a
while. They had some other waveform data which created slightly over
7,000,000 records per day. I placed the archive log backup as written above
into a different cron job. Currently invoked hourly, than the one for the
database backup invoked daily.
