Senthil,

Could you please send me the script which can modify col$.NAME?

I tried this (of course on a trashable DB) but it doesn't work, and as far as my understanding goes(looking at the error), "NOTHING" can make it work. Following is the error I get in 8.1.7.0.0

SQL> alter table col$ modify name varchar2(60); alter table col$ modify name varchar2(60) *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00701: object necessary for warmstarting database cannot be altered
