Did you try to go "beyond the scopes"? I tried this on a trashable DB (8.1.7).

SQL*Plus: Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production on Thu Jun 12 20:30:32 2003

(c) Copyright 2000 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

SQL> alter table col$ modify name varchar2(60); alter table col$ modify name varchar2(60) *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00701: object necessary for warmstarting database cannot be altered

<Docs>
ORA-00701 object necessary for warmstarting database cannot be altered

Cause: An attempt was made to alter or drop a database object (table, cluster,
or index) defined in the control file's bootstrap segment and needed to warm start the database.
</Docs>

What procedure lets you do that when Oracle doesn't allow this SQL to be issued?

Please send me the procedure you were referencing in one of your previous posts.

Regards
Naveen
