In my opinion, perl is pretty much the best text manipulation language around, and since 90% of stuff on computers (especially *nix based systems) is text, that makes it incredibly useful. Do yourself a favor and check it out. I recommend reading "Learning Perl" from O'Reilly, if you know anything about programming it will have you up and running in no time.
