Laura, In order to install RAC you will need to get a cluster manager. You do not need to install a Cluster File system and you can still use raw devices.

If you use Sun Cluster 3.0 you will only be able to use raw devices and you may still be using Veritas's Cluster Volume manager(VXVM 3.1) to manage the shared disk array's.

If you use the Veritas Cluster manager (DBE/AC 3.5) you get the cluster file system and the cluster volume manager.
