I've used this document to setup SSH tunneling from home to work via VPN. Sqlnet then goes through the SSH tunnel, avoiding the opening of holes in the firewall, while still allowing me to connect tools on my laptop directly to oracle at work.

It's very easy, and very cool.

That's exactly what ssh tunneling is made to do.

You can have one machine allowing ssh connections through a firewall, with tunnels, you connect to other machines inside the firewall.
