FWIW--oracle's got a new 3-day RMAN-specific class: Oracle9i Database: Advanced Backup and Recovery Using RMAN.

(The only reason I know this is that I come fresh out of the dba fundamentals 2 class (the better part of which is backup & recovery) and this class was reccomended for the RMAN junkies.)

Cheers,

Pomin - What is your goal? To just back up your test database, shut the database down and back up the files. Is it to learn RMAN? This is not a casual question. RMAN is somewhat involved to configure. I took the Oracle Education Backup & Recovery class and still didn't understand it well enough. If you just want to play with it, buy Oracle Backup & Recovery 101 by Smith and Haisley. They have lots of step-by-step tutorials on Oracle backups, followed by crashing and recovering, about half with RMAN.
