Pradeep,

Unfortunately it isn't that simple. Other factors, primarily based around the purpose of the database play a big role in many parameters. For example, the sort_area_size is determined by the number and size of sort operations which will be performed. An OLTP system will typically have a much smaller sort area than a warehousing application. The number of open cursors will depend heavily on the maximum number of concurrent users connecting to the system. Also, many parameters can be tuned over time in response to particular performance problems and therefore don't need a lot of attention initially.

So, the values for init.ora parameters is unfortunately much more complex than simple database size. Having said that, if you have accurate sizing information then you quite possibly have a lot of the other information you will require, such as concurrent users, etc. You can search the web for various rules and guidelines for each individual parameter. Be careful that the guidelines are appropriate for the version of Oracle you will be working with - rules change over time.

I'd start with the parameters that cannot be easily changed - block size immediately comes to mind. At least things like sort_area_size can be changed later on if you notice a performance problem.

Good luck,

Mark.

Dear All,

If we have done the DB Sizing for a particular database, Can we arrive upon the initialization parameters for that database ? If so, Can someone help me in attaining the formula or relation of these the parameters based on the db sizing.

Thanks and Regards,
Pradeep
